Childhood trauma: a breeding ground for alcohol addiction
Neglect, family hardships, sexual abuse... These adverse childhood experiences increase the risk of addiction to alcohol and other substances. The more traumas a person experiences, the higher the risk, as alcohol becomes a form of self-medication to cope with painful emotions. This calls for a rethinking of primary prevention on several levels.
