Alcohol-related deaths: difficult-to-determine estimates.
How many deaths are attributable to alcohol consumption in France? Two estimates exist, and they do not take the same factors into account: on the one hand, 23,000 deaths per year are linked to chronic alcohol abuse (1998 figure). On the other hand, if we consider all causes of death in which alcohol consumption is a contributing factor, this figure rises to 45,000 deaths per year. [article excerpt]
