Alcohol in the Workplace: The Challenges of Prevention.
According to two recent surveys on the use of addictive substances (alcohol, tobacco, cannabis), 11% of working adults reportedly consume alcohol during work hours, excluding meals and after-work gatherings. Many business leaders have already faced alcohol-related issues within their companies, and many feel at a loss when dealing with such situations. The occupational physician plays a key role in prevention, from the perspective of both employees and HR departments. While certain sectors, such as the transportation industry, have implemented prevention and training initiatives, primary prevention efforts remain limited. [article excerpt]
