COVID-19 in France. Update as of October 2, 2024.

Key Points

  • In week 39, syndromic indicators were generally decreasing in the community and increasing in hospitals. Among those aged 65 and older, however, an increase was observed for both types of indicators.

  • Virological indicators were decreasing in the community and stable in hospitals.

  • The detection of COVID-19 clusters in long-term care facilities increased in weeks 37 and 38.

  • In terms of wastewater, the increase in SARS-CoV-2 detection continued, but remains below the level seen during the same period last year.

  • SARS-CoV-2 circulation remains significant; developments will need to be monitored closely over the coming weeks.

  • Adhering to preventive measures remains an effective way to protect against respiratory infections and their complications and to limit the risk of transmission to others, particularly vulnerable individuals: wearing a mask if symptomatic and regular handwashing are therefore recommended.

  • The vaccination campaign, targeting in particular people aged 65 and older as well as those at risk of severe illness, will begin on October 15, 2024.

  • Data from the COVID-19 bulletin will be incorporated into the IRA bulletin starting next week (week 40), at the start of the winter season.
