In Belgium, "experts by experience of poverty" are employed as professionals and integrated into federal public institutions. Their past experiences with severe social exclusion are drawn upon to make services more accessible and inclusive. Attached to the Federal Public Service for Social Integration, a cross-cutting ministry of the federal government, they are deployed across various government agencies (employment, pensions, disability services, etc.), healthcare facilities, health insurance cooperatives, mental health care networks, and more.
