Older Adults: The Forgotten Ones of Urban Areas?

"Draw me your neighborhood!" A geographer interviewed 100 people aged 75 to 102 and asked them to draw their neighborhood, including the places where they spend their time and the routes they take. In addition, she spoke with them about their perceptions—positive or negative—of their surroundings. These firsthand accounts confirm the urgent need, as the proportion of seniors grows, to adapt the urban environment to this population. Seniors feel vulnerable in spaces where they sometimes feel they have been "forgotten."
