Participating in sports opens doors to society and fosters independence for people with disabilities. [Interview]
Facilities that provide housing and care for people with intellectual and mental disabilities generally do not offer physical or sports activities for this population. The issue remains a social taboo. Yet physical activity is extremely beneficial for people with mental and psychological disabilities, contributing to their development and well-being. This is the conclusion reached by the French Federation of Adapted Sports, which organizes sports activities for this population.
