Substandard housing: a devastating impact on mental health
When housing is in poor condition, it fails to fulfill its social and individual functions. This leads to health problems, a lack of stability, and a lack of privacy. Housing becomes a source of shame. Everyday activities that contribute to maintaining good health—eating, sleeping, personal hygiene, tidying up, growing and developing, and feeling safe—cannot be carried out satisfactorily. These are some of the conclusions of the Qualisurv-Habitat study.
