The System for Notifiable Diseases in France: Recent Developments

The surveillance system for notifiable diseases (NDs) is based on regulatory provisions. This article outlines the key features of the ND surveillance system, which was overhauled in 2003, and the changes introduced since then: the addition of new diseases, the reporting process, and modifications to certain reporting forms. The 2005 evaluation of the system among clinicians and laboratory scientists led to awareness-raising efforts through improved feedback to potential reporters, with the aim of optimizing the reporting rate.
