Teaching and Assessing Empathy in Health Studies: The Approach of Psychosocial Skills

How can psychosocial competencies (PSCs) provide a relevant framework for integrating empathy into the educational and assessment processes of health studies? PSCs are defined by the World Health Organization and Santé publique France as a coherent and interconnected set of psychological abilities. They enable individuals to maintain psychological well-being and adopt appropriate and positive behaviors. Building on the assessment mechanisms already in place in health studies, we propose approaches to sustainably embed empathy in both competency frameworks and assessment methods throughout health curricula.
