For several years now, the French National Authority for Health (HAS) has been at the forefront of efforts to promote patient engagement, one of the pillars of health democracy. While progress has been made, a number of cultural and operational barriers are hindering the growth of these initiatives, which nonetheless contribute to the quality of care by empowering citizens.
