Young People's Sexual Initiation: A Sexually Differentiated Relationship Journey.

Contrary to popular belief, today’s teenagers do not, on average, become sexually active earlier than their parents’ generation. Furthermore, the hypersexualization of young people—sometimes described as a new phenomenon—is not supported by scientific studies. However, as the taboo surrounding sexual relations has weakened, today’s teenagers openly express their sexuality without inhibition, in part thanks to new platforms offered by the Internet. Perceptions of emotional and sexual life, however, remain different depending on whether one is a boy or a girl, as sociologist Florence Maillochon points out.
