Environment and quality of life.

Excerpt from the Health Barometer survey conducted among 4,115 young people aged 12 to 19. This chapter examines how adolescents perceive their health from both psychological and physical perspectives, as well as their behavior toward their loved ones and in daily life. Following a presentation of the educational background of the adolescents surveyed (92.7% are enrolled in school), the discussion turns to leisure activities and social relationships: the three main leisure activities are watching television, playing video games, and reading. Social life is characterized by gatherings at cafés (often involving the use of psychoactive substances) and outside the home. Relationships with parents are examined along two axes: parental control and consistency, and dialogue and the reinforcement of self-esteem by parents. Health-related questions address risk perception, perceived health and fatigue, and sleep. The Duke Health Profile was used to measure perceived quality of life (physical, mental, social, self-esteem, anxiety, depression).
