Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Update as of August 14, 2024.

Key Points

Syndromic Surveillance

  • In week 32 (August 5–11, 2024), activity in emergency departments (Oscour® network) and at SOS Médecins clinics was slightly lower than in the previous week; this is a typical trend during the summer months.

  • Directly related to the Olympic Games, 274 emergency department visits and 11 SOS Médecins interventions were recorded in week 32, a decrease compared to the previous week.

  • SAMU cases involved patients with minor conditions, mostly young people, the majority of whom did not require transport to a healthcare facility.

Wastewater Monitoring

  • In week 32, the downward trend in SARS-CoV-2 levels in wastewater continued.

Drowning surveillance

  • From July 16 to 31, 2024, 272 drownings occurred across mainland France, representing a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2023, likely linked to the heatwave that affected much of the country, thereby creating very favorable swimming conditions.

  • Over the entire monitoring period, from June 1 to July 31, 2024, these figures are down compared to 2023 (-16%).
