National Surveillance of Infectious Diseases, 2001–2003. Epidemiology of MRSA in France

Key Points - The study of MRSA epidemiology in France is based on measuring its spread (with data provided by national surveillance networks) and the microbiological characterization of clones - This characterization has enabled the National Reference Center for Staphylococci to identify three main clones: a dominant clone circulating in hospitals and similar to the international V clone; a clone closely related to the international pediatric clone, circulating in both hospitals and the community; and a strictly community-based European clone containing the genes for Panton-Valentine leukocidin. - It is important to continue monitoring the incidence of these clones relative to one another over time (R.A.)
