Excerpt from the "Baromètre santé" survey conducted among 4,115 young people aged 12 to 19. Pain was examined in relation to three specific areas: headaches, back pain, and stomachaches. Girls are 1.5 to 2 times more likely to report pain, and, overall, the older the respondent, the more frequently pain is reported. The number of visits to a healthcare professional during the year is 10.6 for girls and 8.6 for boys; more teenage girls consult a psychiatrist or dentist. The number of specialist visits increases with the size of the metropolitan area. Over the past 30 days, 37.1% of young people have taken medication for pain, 7.1% for anxiety, and 3.5% to help them sleep.
