As part of its "Chronic Diseases" action program and in accordance with its mandate, INPES is conducting a study on the development of patient therapeutic education in the regions. This study examines the role of patient therapeutic education within the third-generation regional health organization plans (SROS 3). The third-generation regional health organization plans (2006–2011) constitute the most recent planning tool for hospital care provision. Patient therapeutic education, often implemented in healthcare facilities, is therefore likely to be integrated into the SROS, and its role within them can be defined for the region. To verify this hypothesis and analyze how the SROS address patient therapeutic education, the regulatory and administrative texts of each SROS were analyzed, and elements concerning patient therapeutic education were identified. Following a brief review of the definitions of patient therapeutic education and the SROS, their legislative and regulatory framework, and previous research, this report presents the results of this cross-sectional descriptive analysis (by theme and by region). A table summarizing all regional results, as well as detailed results by region, are included in the appendices.
