Pilot study of a training program on the interpersonal aspects of caring for patients with Alzheimer's disease.

As part of the 2004–2007 National Plan for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders, the National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (INPES) developed a training tool for healthcare professionals who care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease or related conditions. The training focuses on the relational aspects of care and is designed to facilitate the implementation of a patient-centered educational approach. To adapt the tool to the needs of professionals, a pilot study of the training was conducted with thirty volunteer private-practice neurologists. Three groups were formed. Each group was led by two trainers, a neurologist and a health educator; each group used different teaching techniques to facilitate the three sessions scheduled as part of the training program. The pilot study was monitored through non-participant observations, post-training evaluation forms, and questionnaires completed by the trainers and the trained professionals.[excerpt from the book]
