Tuberculosis

• In Corsica, the annual reported rate was one of the lowest in mainland France, with 3.9 reported cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2020, lower than the national rate (6.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) and the average rate for mainland regions excluding Île-de-France (5.0 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

• Over the 2016–2020 period, 71% of cases were adults aged 25 to 59. The number of cases among those under 15 was low (only 1 case).

• Among those under 60, reported rates were twice as high among men as among women during the 2016–2020 period. In contrast, among those over 60, rates were higher among women.

• For the 2016–2020 period, the reporting rate among people born abroad (14.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) was more than seven times higher than that of people born in France (1.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). Among people born abroad, this rate declined from 2011 to 2014 and has remained stable since 2016. Among people born in France, it has been low and generally stable since 2001, close to 2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, despite annual fluctuations.

• Five patients presented with meningeal or miliary forms between 2016 and 2020; all were over 15 years of age.

• At the departmental level, for the 2016–2020 period, the reported rate was higher in Haute-Corse (5.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) than in Corse-du-Sud (1.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

Treatment Outcomes

• Information on treatment outcomes for cases reported in 2017 and 2018 was available for 100% of reported cases, an increase compared to previous years (79% of reported cases for the 2010–2016 period).

• Over the 2010–2018 period, 73% of treated cases had completed their treatment, a proportion that remains below the WHO’s target of achieving 90% treatment success.
