Monitoring of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. Update as of January 20, 2013.

Since September 1, 2012, 675 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning have been reported to the surveillance system, involving 2,192 people, including 26 deaths.

Over the past two weeks (2013_S02 and 2013_S03):

  • 23 people were poisoned during 4 incidents of CO poisoning linked to the use of a generator placed inside a home (garage, basement, or other room),

  • A mass CO poisoning incident occurred in a restaurant linked to the use of a portable space heater, exposing 41 people to CO fumes; all were transported to a hospital emergency department.
