• An increase in GEA activity has been observed in community medicine (sentinel network and SOS Médecins) as well as in hospital emergency departments since early October 2021.

• The increase in activity was more pronounced in hospital emergency departments than in SOS Médecins cases and primarily involved children under five years of age.

• The increase observed among children under five in hospital emergency departments was greater and occurred earlier than that observed during the pre-COVID seasons (2010–2019) during the same period.
