COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for August 18, 2022

Key Points

In Week 32, all epidemiological indicators continued to improve across the country, with the exception of Réunion.

  • Mainland France:

    • Incidence rates continued to decline across all age groups and regions

    • Highest incidence rates among those aged 20–39 and those aged 90 and older

    • Hospital admission rates continue to decline across the entire country

  • Overseas territories:

    • High and rising incidence and positivity rates in Réunion

Variants

  • Omicron sublineages: BA.5 remains dominant, accounting for 93% of sequences in the Flash S31 survey (August 1)

Prevention

  • Vaccination as of August 15, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):

    • Vaccination coverage remains stable for the booster dose at 75.3% among those aged 18 and older and at 85.2% among those aged 65 and older

    • Second booster dose: 25.8% of those aged 60–79 (32.5% of those eligible based on the time since their last injection) and 34.1% of those aged 80 and older (45.2% of those eligible)

  • Given the summer holidays and activities that may increase virus transmission, adherence to the combined measures remains essential:

    • up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination;

    • isolation if you test positive for COVID-19 and/or have symptoms;

    • adherence to preventive measures: consistent mask-wearing around at-risk populations or in crowded indoor spaces (particularly on public transportation or at large gatherings…) and increased handwashing. During heat waves, ventilation of indoor spaces should be limited to the coolest hours of the day.
