In Week 47, SARS-CoV-2 cases rose sharply again in mainland France, with a marked increase in new hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care.
Mainland France:
Incidence rate above 300 per 100,000 among those under 50 (>600 among 6- to 10-year-olds)
New hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care on the rise in nearly all regions
Réunion: incidence rate remains high and critical care admissions are rising slightly
Variants
Over 99% of cases identified as the Delta variant through sequencing during the S45 Flash survey (November 8–10)
8 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in France as of December 2 at 4:00 p.m.
Contact tracing
Decrease in the proportion of new cases linked to a known transmission chain
Decrease in the proportion of people aged 65 and older among cases and contacts
Prevention
Vaccination as of November 30, 2021 (Covid Vaccine data):
77.4% of the total population had received at least one dose, and 75.8% were fully vaccinated
Among those aged 65 and older, 42.9% had received a booster dose; this rate rose to 78.5% among eligible individuals in this age group
Severe cases in intensive care from September 1 to November 30:
76% of those under 65 were unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated
34% of those aged 65 and older were vaccinated, but only 1.4% had received a booster dose
Importance of combined measures: vaccination, including booster shots for eligible individuals, participation in contact tracing, and adherence to preventive measures
