Key Points

In Week 05, the slowdown in SARS-CoV-2 transmission was confirmed across the country and was accompanied by a decline in new hospital admissions, but indicators remained high.

  • Mainland France:

    • Incidence rates declining across all regions

    • Positivity rates continue to rise among those aged 60 and older

    • Hospital indicators have begun to decline in most regions

    • Excess mortality from all causes since November linked to the severity of the fifth wave in France

    Overseas territories:
    • Virological and hospital indicators are decreasing but remain high in Réunion

Contact tracing

  • Decrease in the number of cases and contacts

  • Stable and very low number of contacts reported per case identified (value of 1.1)

Variants

  • Omicron accounted for 98.8% of interpretable sequences in the Flash S04 survey of 01/24

  • The BA.2 sublineage remains a minority but is on the rise (5.4% on 01/24 vs. 1.9% on 01/17)

Prevention

  • Vaccination as of February 8, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):

    • 78.9% of the total population had received a full primary vaccination series

    • 69.3% of those aged 18 and older had received a booster dose (79.4% of eligible individuals) and 82.3% of those aged 65 and older (90.3% of eligible individuals)

  • Importance of combined measures:
