COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for February 17, 2022
Key Points
In Week 06, the decline in SARS-CoV-2 transmission accelerated across the country, with a confirmed drop in hospital admissions; however, virological, hospital, and mortality indicators remain at high levels.
Mainland France:
Incidence and positivity rates declining across all age groups
Decrease in new hospitalizations across all regions
Decrease in new critical care admissions in nearly all regions
Mortality remains high, with more than 1,800 deaths per week
Virological indicators and hospitalizations are declining in these territories but remain the highest in Réunion
Contact tracing
Decrease in the number of cases and increase in the number of contacts recorded following the launch of the “List My Contacts” online service by the Health Insurance Agency
Decrease in the proportion of contacts who become cases
Variants
Omicron accounted for 99.3% of interpretable sequences in the Flash S05 survey of January 31, 2022
The BA.2 sublineage remains a minority but is on the rise (10.7% on 01/31 vs. 4.5% on 01/24)
Prevention
Vaccination as of February 15, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):
79.1% of the total population had received a full primary vaccination series
71.3% of those aged 18 and older had received a booster dose (81.3% of eligible individuals) and 83.0% of those aged 65 and older (90.7% of eligible individuals)
Importance of combined measures:
Complete vaccination schedule with a booster shot as early as three months
Adherence to preventive measures, including mask-wearing and contact reduction, as well as other recommended measures such as frequent ventilation of enclosed spaces, teleworking, and participation in contact tracing
