COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for June 3, 2021

Note: The epidemiological update has been redesigned for easier reading and now includes all data on the dynamics of the epidemic, the impact on the hospital system, vaccination monitoring, and contact tracing. Indicators from other surveillance systems and surveys will be incorporated into the epidemiological update based on the dynamics of the epidemic and updates to the topics covered. All of this data remains available on our website and in the epidemiological update via hyperlinks listed under its summary.

Key Points

In Week 21, epidemiological indicators continued to improve and pressure on hospitals continued to decrease. As health restrictions are lifted, the circulation of variants of concern underscores the need to maintain all control measures.

  • Decrease in incidence rates, hospitalizations, and critical care admissions

  • Number of patients in critical care remains high

  • All-cause mortality appears to be returning to expected levels

  • Mainland France: Île-de-France and Hauts-de-France remain the hardest hit

  • Overseas territories: indicators remain high in French Guiana

  • Variants of concern (VOC): variant 20I/501Y.V1 (Alpha) still predominant in mainland France

  • More information on the circulation of variants
