In Week 43, the resurgence of the epidemic is confirmed by the continued increase in SARS-CoV-2 transmission across mainland France.
Mainland France:
Incidence rate exceeding 50 per 100,000 people among those aged 10–79
Incidence rate above 50 per 100,000 inhabitants in 58 departments
Effective reproduction number (R_eff) >1, indicating an increase in the epidemic
Significant drop in testing rates among children under 10 due to school holidays
Rates of new hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care: mixed trends across regions
Overseas territories:
French Guiana: incidence rate continues to decline
Variants
100% of cases identified as the Delta variant through sequencing during the Flash surveys on October 5 and 12, 2021
Contact tracing
Increase in the number of new cases but stabilization of the average number of contacts per case
Increase in the average age of cases and contacts since Week 37, calling for vigilance and the administration of a booster dose in the affected populations
Prevention
Vaccination as of November 2, 2021 (Covid Vaccine data):
76.4% of the population had received at least one dose, and 74.6% were fully vaccinated
19.8% of those aged 65 and older had received a booster dose
Importance of combined measures: vaccination, including booster shots for those aged 65 and older, participation in contact tracing, and adherence to preventive measures
