Key Points
In week 36, SARS-CoV-2 transmission began to rise again after several weeks of improvement in the epidemic situation, while hospital indicators continued to decline nationwide.
Mainland France:
Rising incidence rate, driven in particular by those under 20
Increase in incidence rates in most regions Continued decline in new hospital admissions across most of the mainland
Overseas territories:
Incidence rates are falling across all regions
Variants
Omicron sublineages: BA.5 is ubiquitous, accounting for 93% of sequences in the Flash S34 survey (08/22)
Prevention
Vaccination as of September 13, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):
Vaccination coverage for the booster dose remains stable at 74.3% among those aged 18 and older and at 82.4% among those aged 65 and older
Second booster dose: 28.3% of those aged 60–79 (33.9% of those eligible based on the time since their last injection) and 36.1% of those aged 80 and older (47.4% of those eligible)
Given the accelerating spread of SARS-CoV-2, adherence to combined measures remains necessary:
keeping COVID-19 vaccinations up to date, particularly the second booster dose for older adults;
isolation in the event of a positive COVID-19 test and/or symptoms;
continued adherence to preventive measures: wearing a mask, particularly around the most vulnerable individuals or in crowded indoor spaces (such as on public transportation or at large gatherings), as well as handwashing and ventilating enclosed spaces.
