COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for September 16, 2021

Key Points

In Week 36, all epidemiological indicators continued to decline in metropolitan regions. The situation improved in Martinique and Guadeloupe, but not yet in French Guiana.

  • Mainland France:

    • Highest incidence and hospitalization rates in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Corsica, Occitanie, and Île-de-France

  • Overseas territories:

    • Martinique and Guadeloupe: incidence and hospitalization rates remain very high but are declining

    • French Guiana: high but stable incidence rate and high hospital indicators that are on the rise

Variants

99% of cases identified as the Delta variant through sequencing during the Flash surveys on August 17 and 24, 2021.

Contact tracing

The average number of contacts reported per case remains low, indicating incomplete identification of contacts by cases.

Prevention

  • Vaccination coverage in France as of September 14: 73.9% for one dose and 70.0% for full vaccination

  • CoviPrev survey from August 31 to September 7:

    • Decline in adherence to all preventive measures since late June

    • Intention to get vaccinated continues to rise

  • Importance of combined measures: vaccination without letting up on contact tracing and preventive measures
