Delayed HIV diagnosis. The fight against HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections in France. 10 years of surveillance, 1996–2005

- Factors associated with delayed HIV testing include being over 40 years of age, being a foreign national (particularly from sub-Saharan Africa), and infection through heterosexual intercourse. - Among migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, testing often occurs within the year following their arrival in France. - HIV surveillance data show a recent improvement in HIV testing rates among the sub-Saharan African population. - Drug users do not experience delays in testing.
