Foreign nationals and HIV/AIDS. The fight against HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections in France. 10 years of surveillance, 1996–2005
- An increase in the number of AIDS cases among foreign nationals between 1998 and 2002, followed by a decrease between 2002 and 2005. - A decrease in the number of new HIV diagnoses among foreign women between 2003 and 2005, despite continued migration flows from Africa and recent improvements in screening among this population. - 40% of those diagnosed with HIV in 2005 were foreign nationals (30% from sub-Saharan Africa and 10% of other nationalities). - A population characterized by significant vulnerability. - Some infections occur in France, hence the importance of continuing targeted prevention campaigns.
