Free, anonymous HIV testing. The fight against HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections in France. 10 years of surveillance, 1996–2005

- Over the past ten years, anonymous HIV testing has increased overall, with 315,000 tests conducted in 2005, representing 6% of all HIV tests performed in France. - The age distribution of those seeking testing has shifted toward a younger demographic, with half of those tested in 2005 under the age of 25. - Anonymous and free testing clinics (CDAG) serve a population at higher risk and have recently seen an increase in the proportion of immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa and of gay men. - The proportion of positive serology tests has stabilized at approximately 5 per thousand, both in and out of prison, which is twice the rate found in the overall screening system.
