Expert opinions on the effectiveness of evidence-based interventions in health promotion and prevention
As part of the creation of the portal on evidence-based interventions in health prevention and promotion in 2018, Santé publique France has published an expert opinion on the analysis of the effectiveness of these interventions.
A body of research on health prevention and promotion has been built up over the past few decades, but it remains underutilized and inaccessible. Disseminating this knowledge requires platforms and mediation for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and practitioners in the field who wish to implement interventions based on effective practices. That is why Santé publique France has created a section on its website dedicated to validated or promising interventions in health prevention and promotion.

Establishment of an Expert Committee
To support this project, a committee of experts has been meeting since January 2018 to assist Santé publique France in its efforts to design, evaluate, and test methods, strategies, and initiatives for prevention and health promotion. In particular, it was tasked with formulating an opinion and recommendations for the creation of a system to facilitate access to evidence-based interventions and with developing a set of criteria for analyzing their effectiveness.
The Registry of Effective Interventions
80 programs identified
To date, more than 80 programs have been identified across various fields: addictions, communicable and non-communicable diseases, nutrition and physical activity, parenting, children and youth, poverty, reducing inequalities, occupational health, mental health, sexual health, the environment, vaccination, aging… These themes will evolve as new programs are added.
Objectives of the Evidence-Based Interventions Portal
This portal aims to promote scientifically grounded prevention and to bridge the gap between research and field practices. The pursuit of effective public actions is a growing concern at the national and international levels, leading to the adoption of evidence-based approaches.
The first phase of the portal presents a selection of interventions, primarily in the French context. It consists of programs that are either already established, currently being piloted, or in the process of being rolled out. This selection is not exhaustive and will be expanded to include new initiatives. Each program links to a summary sheet containing an overview of the initiative, contact information, resources, and publications.
In the second phase of the portal, the effectiveness of each initiative will be progressively assessed using the evaluation grid, following analysis by peer reviewers who are specialists in the relevant fields.
