"Simplified nutrition labeling to help consumers choose foods with better nutritional quality"
NUTRI-SCORE: Here We Go
The Law on the Modernization of Our Healthcare System of January 26, 2016, aims to make it easier for consumers to access information on the nutritional quality of food products through concise, simple, and universally accessible information, using "graphs or symbols on the front of packaging."
Following an evaluation under real-world conditions*, the Ministry of Health announced that the simplified labeling would take the form of a logo: THE NUTRI-SCORE.
Starting now, food companies and retailers can join the initiative and display the NUTRI-SCORE logo on their products. A dedicated section on the website allows companies to apply for the right to use the NUTRI-SCORE trademark via a registration form.

Santé publique France’s role in implementing simplified nutritional labeling
At the request of the Ministry of Health, Santé publique France:
created the NUTRI-SCORE brand and logo;
developed a graphic charter enabling the use of NUTRI-SCORE in compliance with European regulations and based on scientific research and trials;
has drafted its rules of use, which have been filed with the French and European intellectual property authorities (INPI and EUIPO) to ensure the proper use of the trademark in France and across Europe;
provides all graphic elements to support its implementation;
manages the trademark and enables the Food Quality Observatory (Oqali) to carry out the planned monitoring and evaluation mission in collaboration with the latter.
Santé Publique France Nutrition Program
The Santé Publique France Nutrition Program is part of the National Nutrition and Health Program (PNNS), which aims to improve the health of the entire population by addressing one of its key determinants: nutrition. It takes into account both nutritional intake and energy expenditure through physical activity. The websites "mangerbouger.fr" and "la Fabrique à menus" enable everyone to incorporate the PNNS recommendations into their daily lives. The agency is also developing numerous initiatives to increase physical activity and reduce sedentary lifestyles among the French population, particularly among young people.
Today, as part of its missions, Santé publique France is contributing to the implementation of nutritional labeling.
The NUTRI-SCORE logo
The NUTRI-SCORE logo was designed based on the work of Professor Serge Hercberg’s team (University of Paris 13) and the expertise of ANSES and the High Council for Public Health.
The NUTRI-SCORE logo uses a color-coded system that classifies products into 5 categories (from A 'good' to E 'limit consumption') to make it as accessible and easy to understand as possible for consumers. The category to which the food belongs is highlighted on the logo with a larger letter.
