Key Points

  • The school year began on August 18 in Réunion and on August 23 in Mayotte. It will begin in week 36 in French Guiana, the French West Indies, and mainland France.

  • In week 34 (August 20–26, 2018) in the Indian Ocean, the number of emergency room visits for asthma among children remained stable. The proportion of asthma-related visits in the total activity of the two networks was slightly lower than in the same period of the previous three years. Nearly 23% of visits were followed by hospitalization.

  • Nationally, among children, visits to emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics for asthma are slightly higher than last week, and 28% of emergency department visits are followed by hospitalization.
