In 2024, one in twenty adults aged 18 to 79 (5.2%) reported having had suicidal thoughts in the past 12 months, 0.4% reported having attempted suicide in the past 12 months, and 5.4% reported having attempted suicide at some point in their lives. Women, young adults, and people in precarious or isolated situations are the most affected. One in ten women with a precarious employment contract (fixed-term contract, temporary assignments, part-time work, apprenticeship contract) reports a suicide attempt at some point in her life. Men in the “employees” socio-professional category are most affected by suicidal thoughts. The Hauts-de-France and Grand Est regions have the highest prevalence of suicidal behavior.
