Marie-Caroline BONNET-GALZY, the new chair of the Board of Directors of Santé publique France

By decree dated December 18, 2017, published in the Official Journal on December 20, Marie-Caroline BONNET-GALZY, a State Councilor serving on a special assignment, has been appointed Chair of the Board of Directors of Santé publique France.

Marie-Caroline Bonnet-Galzy, 59, is a graduate of HEC and ENA. She has spent more than 35 years in senior government and local government administration.

Marie-Caroline Bonnet-Galzy notably served as Director of General Administration and Service Modernization from 1995 to 2000 at the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Vocational Training. She then headed the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs from 2000 to 2006, a body to which she has belonged since graduating from ENA (Louise-Michel class). In 2009, she was appointed Director General of Services for the Lille Urban Community. Finally, in 2014, she joined the Prime Minister’s Office as Commissioner General for Territorial Equality. She has served as a State Councilor on special assignment since July 2016.

During the parliamentary hearings that preceded her appointment, Marie-Caroline Bonnet Galzy had the opportunity to outline her ambitions and objectives for the Agency.

The new president said she was “honored to take on the non-executive presidency of a high-level scientific expertise agency.” She expressed her commitment to “support the Director General and the management team in implementing strategic directions, and in particular to facilitate ties with the various stakeholders.” She also emphasized that it was her responsibility “to lead the Board of Directors and ensure that the diverse group of directors remains engaged with the issues addressed by Santé publique France.” She further stated that she would be vigilant regarding the resources allocated to the Agency for prevention efforts and stressed the need to refresh prevention and health education messages: "We need clear, unambiguous messages that build trust… we need to have a strong presence on social media."

The Board of Directors of Santé publique France currently consists of 28 members (including 9 members representing the State), responsible for deciding on the Agency’s major strategic directions, its program of activities, and the human and financial resources necessary for the fulfillment of its missions. The term of office for Board members is four years, renewable once.
