Nutri-Score® is attracting new companies and expanding across Europe

Nutri-Score, France’s official nutrition labeling system, continues to attract food companies and is expanding across Europe. More than 70 companies in the food industry and retail sector have chosen to use Nutri-Score labeling on all their products. Auchan, which is already participating in France, will display the Nutri-Score on its products in Portugal. These commitments demonstrate the momentum, consumer acceptance, and commitment of many economic stakeholders in support of Nutri-Score.

A voluntary initiative involving more than 70 companies in the sector

Nutri-Score is the official nutrition labeling system recommended by French government authorities and supported in France by consumer associations, healthcare professionals, and the scientific community. To date, more than 70 companies have already committed to displaying it on their products. The adoption of Nutri-Score labeling is a voluntary initiative by companies that wish to better inform consumers about the nutritional quality of the foods they purchase. The government therefore encourages all companies to join this initiative, which benefits the health of the entire population.

Nutri-Score is being rolled out in Portugal

Currently, within the European Union, a nutrition label is required on all prepackaged foods. But for consumers, this information is often difficult to understand. To improve the transparency of this information, Auchan is strengthening its commitment by displaying the Nutri-Score on its products available in Portugal.

A European framework that enables and encourages the rollout of Nutri-Score across the entire market

Santé publique France, the holder of the registered trademark, encourages all companies and retailers to join this initiative, in the interest of better nutritional information and improved nutritional quality of our food. The Agency notes that the European legal framework clearly permits the use of Nutri-Score—a registered European collective trademark and voluntary labeling system—across the entire European Union and on all products placed on the market, provided the trademark is used in accordance with its terms.

Santé publique France assures all companies of its full support in their efforts to voluntarily implement the system across all EU countries.
