Santé publique France is conducting a participatory study on the health of residents in the Lacq basin to help improve their health and quality of life. The goal is to gather information directly from residents about their health status and their perception of the local environment, and to analyze the links between the two. A pilot phase of the study was conducted in March 2023. Following this phase, two collaborative workshops will be held on April 27 and May 25 to prepare for the large-scale rollout of the study: a call for public participation has been issued.
Working together to prepare for the launch of the study in the fall of 2023
The study has been conducted using a participatory approach since its inception, involving local residents and community organizations alongside scientists. During the five preparatory workshops for the study, approximately twenty citizen volunteers shared their experiences of local life and their perceptions of their health, quality of life, and the local environment. They also contributed to the development of the scientific questionnaire used during the study’s pilot phase.
Two new workshops are scheduled for April and May 2023. The first workshop will focus on presenting and discussing the results of the pilot phase and adjusting the survey questionnaire in preparation for the study’s large-scale rollout. The second workshop will address communication strategies to ensure that as many people as possible are informed and able to complete the questionnaire when the study is rolled out in the fall.
These new workshops will be held on Thursday, April 27, and Thursday, May 25, in the Vieux Chêne hall in Lacq (Audéjos hamlet), from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
The participation of residents in the study area in these workshops is essential to the study’s success. Anyone interested who lives in the study area is welcome to participate!
How can I participate in these workshops?

The participatory health study, building on the work conducted by Santé publique France in the Lacq Basin
In October 2015, Santé publique France was tasked by the Directorate General for Health with assessing the appropriateness and feasibility of establishing epidemiological surveillance of the populations living near the Lacq industrial basin. In response to this local issue and in an innovative manner, Santé publique France proposed a series of complementary studies to understand all aspects of the situation and provide a comprehensive response. Consequently, a local context study was published in May 2019 and supplemented by morbidity and mortality studies (Phase 1: feasibility) published in November 2021.
