Health Monitoring in Brittany. Bulletin of June 5, 2026.

Key Points

Extreme heat, heat wave

  • The seasonal monitoring system is officially active from June 1 to September 15. Brittany experienced an early heatwave in S22, affecting the entire region. Record temperatures were observed.
  • A very sharp rise in monitored indicators coincided with the rise in temperatures observed in late May. The volume of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations in S22 was unprecedented and far exceeded observations from previous years during periods of high heat throughout the summer. All age groups were affected.

Allergies

  • High activity. A very significant peak in SOS Médecins consultations was observed in S22, affecting particularly those aged 15–74, 5–14, and to a lesser extent those under 5, and impacting all healthcare providers in the region. The annual peak in SOS Médecins consultations for allergies usually occurs around week 22. A peak of similar intensity was notably observed in 2020 and 2023.
  • France Atmo is warning of an ongoing pollen peak affecting Brittany in particular.

ENT Conditions

  • Moderate to low activity related to ENT conditions. In week 22, among children under 5, ENT conditions accounted for 12% of emergency room visits and 41% of SOS Médecins consultations. The virology laboratories at the Rennes and Brest university hospitals detected rhinoviruses/enteroviruses in 17% (13/75) and 15% (14/92) of the samples tested, respectively
