Key Points

Extreme Heat, Heat Wave 

• A new heatwave struck France from June 17 to July 2. This widespread, prolonged, and intense heatwave was nearly as severe as—or equivalent to—the one in 2003, breaking new temperature records. This second heatwave affected Brittany during week 26 (June 21–27). All departments were placed under a red alert from June 22 to 25 (except for Ille-et-Vilaine on June 26).
• During this episode, the number of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins calls—as measured by the iCanicule indicator—as well as the associated activity rates reached levels close to those of the May heatwave. In S29, the indicators are declining in line with falling temperatures, despite activity levels that remain above seasonal norms.

Allergies

• Increased activity in emergency departments and stable activity for SOS Médecins.

Gastroenteritis

• Moderate activity, remaining higher than levels observed in previous years during the same period, both in hospital emergency departments (particularly among children) and at SOS Médecins.

Viral Meningitis

• Seasonal outbreak currently underway.

ENT Conditions

• Moderate to low activity related to ENT conditions. In Week 29, among children under 5, ENT conditions accounted for 13% of emergency department visits (9% in Week 28) and 41% of SOS Médecins consultations (43% in Week 28).
• The virology laboratories at the Rennes University Hospital and the Brest University Hospital detected rhinoviruses/enteroviruses in 21% (4/19) and 5% (3/62) of the samples tested, respectively.
