Fruits and Vegetables

  • Only 1 in 4 people report eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, and 1 in 2 people are considered low consumers (fewer than 3.5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day).
  • Fruit and vegetable consumption is particularly low among women aged 18–30 and men living in single-parent households.

Whole-grain carbohydrates and pulses

  • Fewer than 3 in 10 people report eating whole-grain starchy foods every day, and about 2 in 10 report eating legumes twice a week, among both men and women.
  • Among 18- to 30-year-olds, whole-grain consumption is less frequent among women, while legume consumption is less frequent among men.
  • Among men living as part of a couple with a child or children, consumption of legumes and whole-grain starchy foods is particularly low compared to other men.

Sugary drinks

  • Men report consuming more sugary drinks than women, especially among those aged 18–30.
  • Consumption of sugary drinks is more common among people with the lowest incomes and lower levels of education.
  • People living in single-parent households report consuming sugary drinks more frequently, particularly men.
