Chikungunya

Since late January (Week 04), 1,693 cases of chikungunya have been laboratory-confirmed in French Guiana, including 67 in Week 33 (unconsolidated data). The virus is actively circulating in the territory:

• Western Coast: The number of visits to the CHOG emergency room for suspected chikungunya has been declining and remains at a low level. The spread of the virus has slowed significantly in recent weeks. This sector is currently experiencing an epidemic. If this trend continues over the next few weeks—particularly as schools reopen and people return to work—the epidemic will end in this sector.
• Savanes: The number of emergency room visits at CHK for suspected chikungunya remained at a stable and high level. The epidemic continues in this sector.
• Cayenne Island: The number of confirmed cases remained stable, and in Week 34, 9 active outbreaks were being monitored, spread across the sector’s three municipalities. Cayenne Island is in the outbreak phase.
• Maroni: Cases continued to be biologically confirmed in this sector, which is in the sporadic transmission phase.
• Interior, Eastern Interior, and Oyapock: No new cases were identified in Week 34. These sectors are in the epidemiological surveillance phase.
