Key Points
Malaria
- The number of malaria cases has remained stable and low over the past two weeks, with 3 cases reported (3 in Week 39 and 0 in Week 40, provisional data) compared to a total of 3 in Weeks 37 and 38. The 3 single-episode cases identified in Week 39 were caused by P. vivax. Since the beginning of the year, 157 cases of malaria have been reported, including 9 in July, 11 in August, and 9 in September. Over the past three months, infections in French Guiana have mainly occurred in gold-mining areas in the Haut-Maroni region on the border with Suriname and in the Savanes region.
Acute Respiratory Infections
- Flu-like illness: Over the past two weeks, flu-related activity has been on the rise in the emergency departments of the three sites of the French Guiana University Hospital (CHU); 4 samples tested positive for the influenza B virus.
- Bronchiolitis: Bronchiolitis-related activity was low at primary care centers (CDPS) but on the rise in the emergency departments at the three sites of the French Guiana University Hospital (CHU); three positive test results for RSV were recorded.
- COVID-19: Activity related to SARS-CoV-2 remained low. In S39 and S40, no samples were biologically confirmed.
Diarrhea
- Diarrhea-related activity was moderate and stable in the CDPS over the past two weeks and also remained stable in the emergency departments at the three sites of the French Guiana University Hospital (CHU de Guyane).
