Key Points
Malaria
- The number of malaria cases has remained stable and low over the past two weeks, with 3 cases reported (1 in S37 and 2 in S38, provisional data) compared to a total of 5 in S35 and S36. These 3 cases were caused by P. vivax, including 1 relapse. Since the beginning of the year, 154 cases of malaria have been reported, including 9 in July, 11 in August, and 6 in September. Over the past three months, infections in French Guiana have primarily occurred in gold-mining areas in the Savanes region.
Acute Respiratory Infections
- Flu-like illness: Over the past two weeks, flu-related activity has been on the rise in the emergency departments of the three sites of the French Guiana University Hospital (CHU de Guyane); one positive test for Influenza B was recorded.
- Bronchiolitis: Bronchiolitis-related activity was low in the CDPS clinics and in the emergency departments of the three sites of the French Guiana University Hospital (CHU); no positive test results for RSV were recorded.
- COVID-19: SARS-CoV-2 activity remained low. In weeks 37 and 38, one sample was biologically confirmed.
Diarrhea
- Diarrhea-related activity was moderate and on the rise in the CDPS and local hospitals in the Maroni region over the past two weeks and remained low in the emergency departments at the three sites of the French Guiana University Hospital (CHU de Guyane).
