Public Health Monitoring in Normandy. Bulletin of October 7, 2026.
Key Points
COVID-19
- The use of emergency care (community-based and hospital-based) for COVID-19 remained stable at moderate levels during Week 40 in Normandy, below the levels observed in previous years and associated with low detection rates in hospital virology testing. However, infection remains significant in the general population, as evidenced by the concentration of the virus in wastewater, which continues to rise.
- The proportion of deaths certified electronically with a Covid-19 notation decreased in Week 40.
Bronchiolitis
- Emergency department visits and SOS Médecins consultations for bronchiolitis have increased among children under one year of age over the past three weeks, reaching levels above baseline. However, this clinical increase is not associated with the isolation of RSV in hospital virology laboratories. The cases of bronchiolitis currently being observed are therefore likely linked to the circulation of other respiratory viruses (such as rhinovirus).
All-Cause Mortality
- Mortality rates are within the lower range of usual fluctuations (Figures 4 and 5).
