Key Points
Asthma at the Start of the School Year
- In S37, the week following the start of the school year, the number of asthma cases among children under 15 increased at SOS Médecins and in emergency rooms; however, the percentages remained within the ranges typically observed during the same period in previous years.
Heat and Health
- There is no heat wave currently underway in Corsica, nor is one forecast for the coming days. The last heat wave ended on August 29.
- Heat-related activity in emergency departments remained stable and in line with expected seasonal levels. The rate of hospital admissions following a visit to the emergency room remained high. Only one consultation for a heat-related condition took place at SOS Médecins.
Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika
- In Corsica, since May 1, two imported cases of dengue have been confirmed (the most recent in S35).
Mortality
- During week 36, the number of deaths from all causes, based on INSEE civil registry data, remained within the usual range of fluctuation in Corsica.
The number of all-cause deaths certified electronically in week 37 also remained within the usual range (as numbers are low and fluctuating in Corsica) (graphs not shown for either source).
