Public Health Monitoring in Corsica. Bulletin of October 22, 2026.
Key Points
Acute Respiratory Infections
Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI): baseline level; activity is low but has been rising slightly at
SOS Médecins over the past several weeks, driven primarily by acute bronchitis
.
- Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: baseline level, very low activity;
- Bronchiolitis: baseline level, activity is increasing but case numbers
remain low. The rhinovirus, which can cause bronchiolitis,
is currently circulating in Corsica as well as on the mainland; - COVID-19: SARS-CoV-2 is actively circulating on the island, as on the
mainland, but the impact on emergency care utilization remains low and
is less than that observed in the previous two years.
The flu vaccination campaign began last week, with
the option to get vaccinated against COVID-19 at the same time.
Mortality
- During Week 41, the number of deaths from all causes, based on INSEE civil registry
data, remained within the usual range of fluctuation in Corsica. - Data from electronic death certificates for all causes in Week 42 are
also in line with what is typically observed (though numbers
are low and fluctuating in Corsica) (graphs not shown for either
source).
