Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika 

  • No new locally transmitted cases identified
  • The regional tally remains at a single outbreak of locally acquired dengue (2 cases) in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.

West Nile virus infections

  • High-risk period for West Nile virus infection; the virus is actively circulating in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse, and Var departments.
  • A total of 39 human cases have been identified in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (+16 cases compared to the last update), nearly half of whom were hospitalized. Eighteen cases were diagnosed in the Bouches-du-Rhône, 13 in the Vaucluse, and 8 in the Var. A very large number of equine cases have been diagnosed in these same departments.

Heat Wave, High Temperatures

  • No heat wave is currently underway or forecast for the region in the coming days.
  • In Week 37, heat-related activity in emergency departments was in line with seasonal expectations and down compared to last week; it was low among SOS Médecins organizations.

Asthma at the Start of the School Year

  • In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region, the number of emergency care visits for asthma among children under 15 has risen sharply: 191 emergency room visits (vs. 61 in Week 36), nearly half of which resulted in hospitalization (82 vs. 24 in Week 36), were recorded, along with 20 SOS Médecins calls (vs. 5 in Week 36).

Mortality

  • The number of deaths from all causes, based on INSEE civil registry data, remained within the usual range of fluctuation in S36 (graphs not shown).
  • Data on electronic certification of all-cause deaths in S37 remained at the same level as that typically observed.
