COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the French West Indies as of June 23, 2023.

Key points

Martinique

  • After several weeks of decline, an upward trend in indicators has been observed in Martinique since early May (Week 18), with an incidence rate of 59 per 100,000 inhabitants. Incidence rates are higher than in previous weeks but remain generally at a low level. In Week 24, the incidence rate was 47 per 100,000 inhabitants. Positivity rates have also increased since Week 18 but have remained stable over the past seven weeks (averaging 21.9% from Week 18 to Week 24, compared to 10.3% from Week 11 to Week 17).

  • In hospitals, the situation has been relatively calm since Week 11, with a weekly average of 8 new hospitalizations in general medical wards and one admission to the intensive care unit.

  • In Week 24, no new hospitalizations in general medicine or in the critical care unit were recorded in SI-VIC (data currently being consolidated).

Guadeloupe

  • After an upward trend observed in weeks S18 and S19, incidence rates have fluctuated but remain at a relatively low level.

  • Since week S19 (95 per 100,000), incidence rates have gradually decreased through week S23 (48 per 100,000 inhabitants). In week 24, the incidence rate rose again (61 per 100,000 inhabitants). A similar trend was observed in the positivity rate, which fell from 28.1% in week 19 to 18.5% in week 23 and rose to 25.4% in week 24.

  • In hospitals, the proportion of COVID-19 cases among total emergency department activity had remained stable for several consecutive weeks (1% on average). A weekly average of 11 new hospitalizations and one admission to the intensive care unit had been recorded in Guadeloupe since Week 18.

Saint Martin

  • Since the beginning of the year, the epidemiological situation regarding SARS-CoV-2 has been favorable in Saint Martin. Over the past ten weeks (since Week 14), an average of nine people tested positive each week.

  • In hospitals, the situation has been calm.

Saint Barthélemy

  • The epidemiological situation regarding SARS-CoV-2 has been favorable in Saint-Barthélemy since the start of the year.

  • In week 24, five people tested positive, compared to eight the previous week.

  • At the hospital, no new hospitalizations were recorded in Week 24.
